Edward Zamjohn

Cobleskill- Edward A. Zamjohn, 87, of Flintlock Way, died at his home under the loving care of his family and Helios.

Born July 16, 1933 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late John O. and Jesse (Allen) Zamjohn.

Ed graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and then enlisted in the United States Army.  He proudly served his country from 1956 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1958.

Following his service, he became a Correction Officer for New York State for thirty years, working in Coxsackie and the last, Camp Summit.  He was an honorary board member of the former Schoharie County ARC (now Lexington) and a member of the Schoharie County Conservation Association.

An avid hunter, fisherman, photographer and outdoorsman; Ed was a member of the West Fulton Rod and Gun Club, Richmondville Rod and Gun Club, NRA, and Rotary Club of Cobleskill.  He was politically active to support and influence State policy to benefit the environment & NY sportsman. Ed was recognized by the New York Conversation Council for his “Lifetime dedication and commitment to Conservation.” He and his wife wintered many years in Florida and enjoyed traveling through the North East states together.

Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne, step-daughter Amy, first wife, Barbara, son, John, sisters: Barbara Scrafford and Elizabeth Putnam.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene (Miers) Zamjohn, whom he married September 14, 1986; two sons: Stephen (Marianne) Zamjohn and Paul (Karen) Zamjohn; step-son, Clyde (Kathy) Miers; step-daughter, Michelle (Jeffrey) Linnehan; brother-in-law, Donald Scrafford; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Lindsey) Miers, Jennifer (Travis) Brown, Alyssa Zamjohn, Matthew Koehler, Samantha Koehler, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Olszowy and Matthew Zamjohn and three great-grandchildren: Austin J. Olszowy, Alexa Knox and Jordan Brown.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 11:30 AM to 1PM. on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A private funeral service will be held for the family with burial following in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon, NY.
