Preston Hollow- Edward "John" Hillicoss, 73, of Cheese Hill Road, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Albany Medical Center.

Born February 1, 1936 in Preston Hollow, he was a son of Gertrude (Marciniak) Hellicoss and the late Edward J. Hellicoss.

John was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Middleburgh Central School in 1953. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, serving from 1954 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1957.

For many years John was a mechanic for farm machinery, and he retired as a custodian from the Greenville Central School.

He was a member of the Tri Village Volunteer Fire Dept. and an avid hunter and fisherman.

John was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve E. Hillicoss.

Survivors include his children: Sherri (Jeffery) Pine, Donald (Trina) Hillicoss and Lee (Patricia) Hillicoss all of Preston Hollow; his mother: Gertrude Hellicoss of Albany; his siblings: Ellen (Earl) Potter of Preston Hollow, Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin Hillicoss of Florence, MT, and Paul (Barbara) Hillicoss of Vail, AZ; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 13 nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the funeral home where a fireman's prayer service will be held at 7:45 PM. Burial will be in Potter Hollow Cemetery.
