RICHMONDVILLE- Edgar G. Maurice, 78, of Depot Street, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Mr. Maurice was born August 23, 1927 in Fitchburg, MA, the son of Eugene and Regina (St. Laurent) Maurice.
Mr. Maurice retired from REM's Plastic in Richmondville, where he was a tool and dye maker. He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1946 to 1947, when he received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the VFW Post 1614 in La Crescenta, CA.
Mr. Maurice moved to Richmondville in 1976 and was instrumental in establishing the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad. He was a driver for the former Response Medical Transport, and was a member of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Maurice was a communicant of St. Anna's Catholic Church in Summit.
Survivors include a son, Edgar G. Maurice, Jr.; a sister, Annette B. Vedder of Stamford; 3 brothers: Roger J. Maurice of Springfield, MA, Ronald N. Maurice and Emile L. Maurice, both of Richmondville; 3 granddaughters: Amanda, Melodie, and Cassandra Maurice; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 7, at St. Anna's Church State Route 10 Summit with Father Edward Golding as celebrant. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill. Cremation will take place following the mass and burial of cremains will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
