Dorloo - Douglas C. Kniskern, 76, of West Richmondville Road, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his residence with his family at his side.
Born October 21, 1934 in the town of Seward, he was a son of Joseph and Clarissa (Roberts) Kniskern.
Doug was a 1953 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School. He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1960 until 1962 when he received an honorable discharge.
Doug retired from the former Lifesavers Corp. in Canajoharie where he was a gum batcher and then joined his son, Darrell, in the farming industry.
He was a longtime member of Sprout Brook Rod & Gun Club and Canajoharie Forest, Fish, and Game Club.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice (Clapper) Kniskern, who died March 27, 1999.
Survivors include his son, Darrell Kniskern of Dorloo; his brother, Ralph Kniskern of Schenevus, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Jared van Wagenen IV officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo with military honors.
