Middleburgh- Douglas C. Gardner, 78, of Pine Street, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia where he had been a resident for the past few years.
Born April 20, 1934 in Utica, NY, he was a son of H. DeLoss Gardner and Evaline (Gile) Gardner.
Douglas moved with his family to Middleburgh in 1945 and for over twenty-five years was employed at the NY State offices in the maintenance department.
He was a former member of the Middleburgh Volunteer Fire Department as well as the B.P.O.E. #2040 in Cobleskill.
A Korean Conflict veteran, Douglas was also a member of the Timothy Murphy American Legion Post #248.
Douglas was an avid bowler and was inducted to the Hall of Fame for Bowling in Schoharie County and was a recipient of the American Bowling Congress Silver Plaque.
He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda, who died in 1992.
Survivors include a brother: Henry D. Gardner of Buffalo Junction, VA, and a sister: Marjorie Williams of Waterville, NY; along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Rauhauser of the Middleburgh United Methodist Church. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home on Wed. from 6 to 8 PM. Spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
