Richmondville – Dorothy J. Vroman, 89, of High Street died early Saturday morning, November 4, 2023, at Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.
Born July 8, 1934, she was the daughter of Jacob Mravlja and Angela (Polich) Mravlja.
Dorothy graduated from Worcester Central School in 1953. A dedicated homemaker, she embarked on a career as a school bus driver for Richmondville Central School for 20 years. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Worcester, New York, as well as St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Summit, New York. She was a member of the Bloodstone Auxiliary Unit and served on the Schoharie County Board of Elections.
On May 22, 1954, Dorothy married Charles L. Vroman (Korean War Army Veteran) who predeceased her on September 5, 2012. Two sons (Robert and Charles), a daughter (Dorothy), two brothers Richard F. Mravlja and George P. Mravlja, Sr. also predeceased Dorothy.
Dorothy resided in Richmondville, New York for over 69 years up to her recent admission to Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in October. During her childhood, Dorothy grew up on the family dairy farm in Decatur, New York. Her love for animals and passion for green pastures were deeply engrained in her and her family’s way of life over the years. Dorothy loved to travel, visiting several states and National Parks across the United States, as well cruising in the beautiful Caribbean islands. She enjoyed camping with family and friends, recently celebrating her 89th birthday at Nickerson Catskill Mountain Campground in Gilboa, New York. She loved to watch her favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. Dorothy enjoyed baking traditional Slovenian dishes, pies and countless batches of cookies for her grandchildren.
Forever cherishing their memories are her children: Michelle (Garry) Davis of Richmondville and Michael Vroman of Schoharie, grandson Nathan (Vickie) Davis and their children Matthew and Ryan; granddaughter Kayla Davis; grandson Justin Davis; and granddaughter Regina (Robert) Mann and their children Shawn, Zachary, Addison, Conner and McKenzie.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 1PM on Saturday November 11, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, New York Father Joseph Arockiasomy will officiate. All are welcome to the visitation from 11AM to 1PM to be held prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Worcester, New York.
