Berne- Dorothy M. Schanz, 71, of Switzkill Road, formerly of Middleburgh, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a brief illness.
Born September 28, 1943 in Oceanside, Long Island, she was the daughter of William and Rose (Johnson) Stumpf.
Her family moved from Long Island to Middleburgh and she was a 1961 graduate of Middleburgh Central School.
Dorothy has lived in the Berne area since the mid 1960s and retired from Kemper Insurance Agency of Albany, where she worked as an agent for many years.
She volunteered with the Heldeberg Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Dorothy loved being a part of both her sons' life, and could kick a mean football with them as they enjoyed playing together.
Survivors include her son: Peter (Melissa) Schanz of Voorheesville; two brothers: William (Audrey) Stumpf and Robert (Christine) Stumpf, all of Middleburgh; five granddaughters: Alyssa Cantlin, Paula Cantlin, Cassandra Schanz, Gabrielle Tubbs and Marissa Schanz all of Voorheesville; and two-great-grandchildren: Dom and Brycen Plouffe.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in Middleburgh Cemetery.
