Richmondville-Dorothy A. Rella, 85, of Franzen Rd., died Friday, November 9, 2012 at her daughter's home in Summit.

Born October 6, 1927 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Anderson) Smith.

Dorothy had been employed in sales at Nassau Farmer's Market for several years before she and her husband moved from Levittown to Richmondville in 1987.

She met her husband, Domenick, while enjoying one her favorite pastimes, roller skating. Together they enjoyed roller skating and ice skating. She was a member of Sons of Italy in Schoharie County, which her husband was the founder of the local chapter. In her later years, Dorothy loved bird watching and television programs, especially mystery programs.

Dorothy always had a positive outlook and was known as "Mammy" by many. Her family was her pride and joy.

She was predeceased by her husband, Domenick, in 1998, and her son, Robert Rella in 2010.

Survivors include her two daughters: Virginia Ogno of Summit and Alice (Edward) McEnaney of Hicksville, NY; seven grandchildren: Rigina Sica, Melanie Whelan, Jason McEnaney, Steven McEnaney, Kristen McEnaney, Domenick Rella, and Thomas Rella; and six great-grandchildren: Amanda Sica, Christi Sica, Frankie Alipo, E.B. McEnaney, Allegra Whalen and her twin, Domenick Whalen.

A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Grant Smith, of First Summit Baptist Church in Charlotteville, officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service on Sunday from 2-4 PM. Cremation will follow the service at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
