Richmondville- Mrs. Dorothy G. Babcock, 97, formerly of Richmondville, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY.

Born August 5, 1913 in Gilboa, Dorothy was the daughter of Glenn and Lucina (Rogers) McLaury.

She was a graduate and honorary alumnus of the former Gilboa Central School. Her family moved to the Richmondville area in 1926.

Dorothy retired from the former Richmondville Central School where she was a cafeteria manager for many years. She was a member of the Marian Study Club, Cobleskill Bowling League, Richmondville United Methodist Church and the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Smith Babcock who died in 1990, a son, Larry G. Babcock, who died in 2008, and a daughter, Joyce McTaggart who died in 2003.

Survivors include a son: Rev. Warren (Wanda) Babcock of Worcester; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2011 at Richmondville Rural Cemetery, Richmondville, NY with Rev. Victor Zaccaro officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contribuitons may be made in Dorothy's name to the Richmondville United Methodist Church, Main St., Richmondville, NY 12149 or the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Dept., Main St., Richmondville, NY 12149

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh.
