Doris PeRue

Richmondville- Doris A. PeRue, 93, of Brooker Hollow Road, died Friday, August
21, 2015 at her residence.

Born October 26, 1921 in Richmondville, she was the daughter of Herbert S. and Leona (Butler) Thurber. A lifelong area resident, Doris grew up on the Thurber Dairy Farm and slaughterhouse and was a 1940 graduate of the former Richmondville Central School.

She began her career as a seamstress at the former VanDeusen Dress Factory in Cobleskill, but transitioned to being a homemaker and caretaker after marriage. Doris was a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church where she volunteered in various capacities. She was also a member of the Richmondville Senior Citizens.

In her leisure, Doris enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, feeding and watching the birds and loved her cats and dogs.

She married Roger Curtis in 1942 and he predeceased her in 1958. Her second husband, Martin PeRue, whom she married in 1960, died in 2009. Doris was also predeceased by her son: Larry R. Curtis and daughter: Linda A. PeRue, as well as her brother: Herbert Thurber.

Survivors include her grandchildren: Lori Curtis of St. Louis, MO and Timothy Martin Curtis of Encino, CA; nephew: Lee Thurber of Richmondville; niece: Carole Rigg of Rosemead, CA; and nephew: James Thurber of CA.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Richmondville United Methodist, Main St., Richmondville, NY, with Rev. Matthew Rowe officiating. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 25 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
