Doris Crapser

Summit- Doris M. Crapser, 92, of Baldwin Road, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown after being stricken at home.

Born June 2, 1923 in Sidney, NY, she was the daughter of Robert S. and Mildred (McMullen) Stilwell.

Doris retired in 2013 after twenty-five years of being a tour guide for Lansing Manor in North Blenheim. She served as tax collector for ten years for the town of Summit and assisted her husband daily on their dairy farm. She was also secretary/treasurer of the Summit Cemetery for many years. Doris was a member of the Summit United Methodist Church.

In her leisure, Doris enjoyed gardening, puzzles, reading, family gatherings and watching mud Boggers. Many people affectionately knew her as Gram.

Her husband predeceased her: Howard "Jake" Crapser, who died in 1995; her son: Ralph Youmans in 2001 and a grandson: Howard Crapser, Jr in 2001; and three siblings: Wanda, Gordon, and Ralph.

Survivors include her children: Howard (Kathy) Crapser of Summit, Vicki (Manny) Teetsel of Richmondville, Debra (Robert) Sperbeck of Richmondville, and Maureen Meadowcroft of Jefferson; two brothers: Harold Stilwell of Frederick, MD and Rodney (Jane) Stilwell of Canastota; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Summit United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Benson officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery.
