Doris L. Bates, 93, of Clauverwie, died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Cobleskill, NY, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bates was born in Camden, NJ on August 29, 1916, a daughter of the late Louisa (Rickenbach) and James E. Hammonds.
Mrs. Bates was a foster mother for several years and worked in the laundry department at the former Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill, before retiring. Many years ago, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the former Community Hospital in Cobleskill and she was a former dispatcher for the Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Mrs. Bates was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Middleburgh
She was predeceased by her husband: Rudolph G. Bates; a son: Dale E. Bates; her sister: Ruth Case and her brothers: Harry and Howard Hammonds.
Mrs. Bates is survived by her daughters: Bernice "Bunnie" Bates of Middleburgh, NY and Beatrice "Bobbie" Bates of Schenectady, NY; her son: George E. (Barbara) Bates of Virginia Beach, VA.; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Richard Owens of the Pilgrim Holiness Church officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation at the funeral home from 10 to 11am on Friday, prior to the service. Burial will follow in Manorkill Cemetery, Manorkill, NY.
