Middleburgh- Donald Palmatier, 82, of Main Street, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Ocoee, FL.
Mr. Palmatier was born February 27, 1925 in Limekill, NY, the son of Lewis and Lillian (Garner) Palmatier.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the 331st Infantry Regiment from 1943 to 1945 when he was honorably discharged. Mr. Palmatier was awarded the American campaign medal, European African Middle Eastern campaign medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was wounded in France on Aug. 8, 1944.
Mr. Palmatier retired from the Army Depot in Watervliet and the Minekill State Park. He was a volunteer for the Middleburgh Fire Department, serving as a member for over 40 years, was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 2040, and also a member of the American Legion and VFW, both in Cobleskill.
Mr. Palmatier enjoyed gardening and selling vegetables and gladiolas. He also repaired and sold bicycles.
Survivors include his daughter: Donna Meister of Longwood, FL; 2 sons: Jonathan and Donald Palmatier, Jr., both of Middleburgh; 2 sisters: Kathryn Sisson of Berne, NY, and Alverda Ploss of Blenheim, NY; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, Dec. 29 at Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home 134 River St. Middleburgh. Friends may call from 1 to 3 PM, Saturday, prior to the service. Burial will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
