Schoharie: Donald H. Foland, Sr., 82, of Morning Sun Drive died, Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Donald was born on July 9, 1931 in Schoharie to Dorothy (Wood) and Victor Foland.

Donald served in the United States Army from 1948 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. He proudly received his GED while in the service along with the Soldiers Medal, Occupational Medal and the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars.

Following his honorable discharge, Donald worked at the Gilboa Power Project and General Electric before moving to North Carolina. While there, he worked as an electrician and then a mechanic at the Laurinburg Lanes.

Donald returned to New York to manage the Cobleskill Bowling Center before retiring.
In his retirement, he worked part-time in the maintenance department at the Duanesburg Mobil Station. He also operated his own lawn care business as a hobby.

Don was an avid bowler and enjoyed teaching junior leagues. He also enjoyed playing cards, attending Bible study, and teaching Sunday school.

He was a former Warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in West Middleburgh and most recently a Deacon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Summit.

Donald was married to Dorothy Anne (Groesbeck) Foland on October 10, 1953 until her death on September 11, 2004.

He was also predeceased by his stepmother Laura (Diamond) Foland and his siblings: Virginia, Kenneth, Thomas and Clarence.

Donald is survived by his daughter: Jackie (Maynard Payne) Foland of Schoharie; sons: Donald H. Foland, Jr. of Cobleskill, John Foland of Middleburgh and James (Shirley Dikeman) Foland of Glen Burnie, MD; sister: Carolyn Snyder of Schoharie; brothers: Keith Foland of Schoharie, William (Roxie) Foland of Gibson, NC; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Cremation took place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady.
