Donald Davenport

Seward - Donald L. Davenport, 73, of Lawyersville Road, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at his residence.

Born July 13, 1938 in Seward, he was a son of Le Roy and Mary (Zido) Davenport.

Donald was a lifelong area resident and retired as a mechanic in 2007 from the former Rua & Sons, Inc. in Cobleskill.

He was a member of the Hyndsville United Methodist Church. Donald enjoyed hunting and working with wood.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia (Clapper) Davenport, whom he married in 1958; six children: Donald G. (Tammy) Davenport, Cheryl F. Fortin of Richmondville, Betsy J. Olsen of Sharon, Tammy M. (Richard) Madden of Seward, Daniel M. (Bonny) Davenport of Seward, and Frederick L. Davenport of Richmondville; his brother: Romine (Elaine) Davenport of Seward; three sisters: Barbara (John) Diefendorf, Mary Louise Brown, and Kathleen (Charles) Lord all of Seward; eighteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with David Houck of the Hyndsville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM.
