Summit (Schoharie County)- Donald E. Buddle, 74, of Coyote Drive, passed away on March 11, 2010 at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany after a year long battle with cancer of the esophagus.
Born May 21, 1935 in Dover, NJ, he was a son of Russell and Emily (Rowe) Buddle.
Don served our country with the United States Marine Corp. from 1953 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, Putnam County Detachment.
He was a 1960 graduate of Maryville College in Maryville, TN, where he enjoyed volunteering his time working on campus each year at Kin Takahashi Week helping to improve old buildings and grounds.
Don resided in California for thirty-five years until ten years ago when he and his wife moved to Summit. Don was an organic garlic grower in Summit, and he and his wife enjoyed planting Norway Spruce each year on their property as a reforestation project.
The last eight years Don worked full time at Walmart DC6041 in Sharon Springs, where he made many friends. He was a member of FEMA, Schoharie County Medical Reserve Corp, and was also a licensed security guard.
Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Pat Fowler and stepson, Jeff; his children: Matt (Susan) Buddle and their son, Ryan of California, Heather Buddle and her children, Emily, Madison and Ian of Colorado, and Andrew Buddle of Colorado, as well as numerous friends.
A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, State Route 10, Summit, NY with military honors to be presented at the conclusion of the celebration. A period of fellowship will follow in the social hall of the church. Burial will be private.
