Cobleskill- Donald Aura Brown, 99, of Cobleskill, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Eddy Village Green, in Cohoes following a lengthy illness.
Born September 27, 1914 in Cobleskill, he was the son of the late Jesse and Jennie (Blythe) Brown.
Donald was a 1932 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School and went on to serve with the United States Army during World War II for five years. He achieved the rank of warrant officer before receiving an honorable discharge.
Don worked for many years at Fenimore Fabrics in Cobleskill, and then as an attendant at the former Pangman Service Station until retiring at the age of 69.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Virginia (Dietz) Brown, who died on August 21, 2010. They married on January 10, 1946. Two brothers also preceded him in death: Carlos Brown and Roger Brown; and three sisters: Thelma Bellinger, Frances Arnold and Charlotte Birdsall.
Survivors include his four children: Caroline Brown (Peter Miller) of Stafford Springs, CT, Cathy Keyser of Latham, Thomas Brown (Sarah Brod) of Colonie, and Alan (Maura) Brown of Horseheads; seven grandchildren: Jason (Megan) Brown of Oakdale, CT, Kaitlin Miller of Rocky Hill, CT, Aubrey Miller of Manchester, CT, Craig Brown of Glenmont, David Brown of White Plains, Jacqueline Brown of Rochester, and Patrick Brown of Elmira; two great-grandchildren; one sister: Helen (Frank) Fuller of Cobleskill; one cousin: LaVerne Steenburgh of Cobleskill; and 25 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Zion Rural Cemetery, Janesville, in the spring, with a date to be announced. There will be no calling hours.

Donald's family would like to thank the staff of Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, particularly the staff of Building 4, for their kind and loving care during the past four years of his life.
