Summit- Donald Bird, 74, of Meadow Drive, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born November 23, 1936 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Joseph and Eva (Moore) Bird.
Donald was a United States Marine Corps. veteran proudly serving his country from 1954 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.
He had retired after twenty years of working for Mobile Air Transport of Latham where he was employed as a dispatcher
Prior to moving to Summit, Donald was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Marion (Morton) Bird, whom he married Sept. 19, 1959; his two children: Cheri Jamison of Rotterdam and George (Susan) Bird of Summit; five grandchildren: Michael Jamison, Kelly Jamison, Jeff (Kate) Jamison, Nicholas Bird and Matthew Bird; his sister: Joan Burke and brother: Robert Bird; sister-in-law: Joan Cioffi; nieces and nephews: Toni, Janice, and Thomas; nephew: Raymond Burke; two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with the grandson, Jeff Jamison officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday. Interment with military honors will be in Summit Cemetery.
