Domingo Castro

Sharon Springs- Domingo Castro, 91, of Gardnersville Road, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his residence following a long illness.

Born January 8, 1922 in Puerto Rico, he enlisted in the United States Army as a young man serving from 1942 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Domingo served with the Medical Detachment 161st General Hospital and was decorated with the American Theater Service Medal and 7 Overseas Service Bars.

For over twenty-five years he was employed as a fork lift operator at Beechnut Corp. in Canajoharie.

His family brought him the most pleasure and in his leisure, he enjoyed Yonkers Raceway and Saratoga Racetrack.

He married Dolores Garcia on February 14, 1953 and she predeceased him on August 7, 2001.

Survivors include his children: Nancy Castro, Ana Celia Cruz, Nelson Castro, Ralph Castro, Homer Castro, and Carl Castro all of Sharon Springs; eleven grandchildren: Angela Burman, Dominga Lent, Elishia Castro, Ralph Castro, Jr., William Taylor, James Castro, Stephanie Castro, Jacob Castro, Jessica Castro, Felicia Shea and Aaron Cruz; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 3 PM Sunday. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
