Dennis R. DeWitt (Den), 72, of Bear Gulch Road,Summit, died Sunday, June 4, 2023 unexpectedly at his residence of natural causes.
Born December 14, 1950 in Schenectady, he was the son of Earl and Ruth (Shillinger) DeWitt. He lived in Central Bridge, NY and graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1969. Den then joined the United States Navy where he served for 4 years. After moving back to the area, Denny worked for Freihofer’s for 19 years and was a bartender at the Valley Inn. Dennis then went on to be employed at SUNY Cobleskill's maintenance and grounds department and retired in 2012.
Denny spent his time with his loving wife at his home on Bear Gulch Lake, watching Nascar races, and enjoying spending time with his many friends sitting together at his home bar. Den also enjoyed classic cars such as Ford Mustangs, including his own cherished mustang. Denny’s greatest love was for his wife, family, and friends that he cared so deeply for.
Denny was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Ruth DeWitt, and his sister, Deborah. Survivors include his wife of 13 years; Deborah J. DeWitt. His brother, David (Deborah) DeWitt of Schoharie. Two daughters; Denise (Andy) Hobbs of Aziles, TX, and Stephanie (Michael) Hotaling of Canajoharie. Four grandchildren; Cameron, Kaydee, Adley, and Scarlett. Two stepchildren; Jon Moister of Islip Terrace and Stephanie (Michael) Yorke of Summit, and four step grandchildren; Nick, Hannah, Luke, and Natalie.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 12 noon, with a service directly following at 12 noon on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St. Cobleskill. Officiating will be Pastor Rob Sisco of the Valley Bible Baptist Church in Cobleskill. Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon For a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187, in lieu of flowers.
