Denice Green

Jefferson- Denice L. Green, 48, of Moxley Street, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at her residence with her loving family at her side.

Born March 18, 1966 in Bay Shore, she is the daughter of Barbara (Raynor) Granniss and the late John Granniss. She often spoke of her idyllic childhood and the love she had for her parents.

Denice's genuine and endearing personality kept her surrounded by friends and made it nearly impossible for her to walk through a grocery store without a person (or two, or five) stopping her to chat. Some of her favorite past times included trying to embarrass family members in public and reminding everyone it was her birthday (and birth-week and birth-month) as well as wearing her birthday tiara. An extremely talented shopper, she could put together an outfit for herself (or someone else) in record time, and had an instant love affair with any adorable high heeled shoe that crossed her path. In addition to her children, Denice took particular pride with "infecting" her friend's child with her "shoe-infatuation", being able to type ridiculously fast, and remembering every name and date she ever came across.

Denice and her fiancé had a knack for adventure, traveling from Cancun to Canada, and kayaking far and wide. Denice often woke up not even realizing she was going on an adventure that day, all she would do is put a smile on her face and say, "Let's go!". When the kids needed comforting words, they knew she was the one to call. She loved each one of her children and showed this by the way she would make extra food to send home with them, sending texts stating that she loved them and always being a person with open arms full of love. It was Denice's quirky sense of humor, deep sense of compassion and wonderful approachability that made her truly loved by so many. Slow to judge and quick to smile, she made the days a little sunnier for all who came in contact with her. She was deeply loyal to friends and family, and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.

Survivors include her fiancé: Kathleen Miller of Jefferson; her mother: Barbara Granniss of Hannacroix; her children: Eric Kolakowski of Esperance, Sara Green of Jefferson, Samantha Miller (Matt Karker) and their two children, Nicholas and Brian Karker of Richmondville, Shannon Miller of Saratoga, Erin Miller of Richfield Springs; her sister: Trudy Ewiss of Rotterdam; her grandmother: Elsie Raynor of Queensbury; and two nieces: Amanda and Nora Ewiss.

Denice was Guidance Secretary at the Golding Middle School within the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District and took deep pride in helping people in this and past jobs. It was not unusual for co-workers of Denice's to be heard exclaiming what a wonderful experience it was to work with her, and she in turn loved working with the people. Denice's ever-present laugh will live on with all of those who knew and loved her.

A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon For a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187.
