David Campbell

Carlisle- David F. Campbell, 82, of State Route 20, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.

Born September 16, 1926 in the Town of Kingsbury, he was the son of Alfred and Marjorie (Harvey) Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1943 until 1947 when he received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 5088 in Cobleskill, American Legion Fred L. Stilson Post 57, Cobleskill Am Vets, and a life member of Oneonta Chapter 200 Disabled American Veterans.

He retired from General Electric in Schenectady where he was employed as a welder. In 1969, David and his family moved from Ballston Spa to Carlisle.

Mr. Campbell was a fifty year member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 394 of Cobleskill, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Masons of Schenectady, and Cyprus Shrine of Albany.

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Campbell, who died in 2003.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Olive (Toman) Campbell; three children: Michael Campbell of Milford, CT, Roberta (Edward) Fountain of Cobleskill, and Christian Campbell of Carlisle; four sisters; one brother; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

A Masonic Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, with a funeral service immediately following. Rev. Bert Mayne of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church will officiate. Military Honors will be presented at the conclusion of the funeral service at the funeral home. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday. Burial will be private in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
