Summit- Dante R. Ogno, 88, of Charlotte Valley Road, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
Born June 2, 1926 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Pietro and Maddelena (Trotto) Ogno.
Dante was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving from 1944 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He was an Electrician Mate 3rd Class aboard the naval destroyer, USS Madison, during WW II. Dante served in the Pacific and his ship was one of the many that were involved in the rescue operation of the ill fated USS Indianapolis. The USS Madison was part of the fleet of the allied ships that sailed into Tokyo Bay for the surrender ceremony ending the was.
He married Therese in 1946 and was employed at New York Power Authority for thirty-five years, retiring in 1981. Dante was a member of the Long Island Theater for the Deaf for five years. They moved to Summit in 1988. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, and he found great pleasure in reading and working outside on his property.
His wife, Therese, predeceased him on Nov. 1, 2000 as well as his son, Jeffrey, on Oct.12, 2009.
Survivors include his children: Jacqueline (Richard) Miraglia of Farmingville, Corann (Steven) Bigelow of North Bend, OR, Martin (Michelle) Ogno of Clackamas, OR, and daughter-in-law: Virginia "Ginny" Ogno of Summit; three brothers: Julio (Vivian) Ogno of New Jersey, John (Lois) Ogno of New York, George Ogno (Per Larson) of New Milford, CT; two sisters: Alba (Ben) Bennett of Gainesville, GA and Iola Campenella of East Palaka, FL; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held with military honors in Summit Cemetery on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh.
