Daisy Schanz

Huntersland - Daisy May Schanz, 81, of High Point Road, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at her residence following a long illness.

Born March 17, 1933 in Oak Hill, NY, she was the daughter of James and Nina (Filkins) Gifford.

Daisy was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She was a member of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for over forty years and was a 4-H Leader for Huntersland for several years.

Her brother, John Gifford, predeceased her.

Survivors include her husband: Carl B. Schanz, whom she married April 26, 1952; her two children: Mary Lou (Daniel) Palumbo of Olean and Stanley C. Schanz of Huntersland; four grandsons: Adam Schanz of Huntersland, Daniel (Erin) Palumbo of Olean, Michael Palumbo of Buffalo, and Brian (Elizabeth) Palumbo of Orlando, FL; and two great-grandchildren: Trenton and Brooke Palumbo.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh where a period of visitation will be held prior, from 2 to 4 PM Friday. Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church will preside. Spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
