Cobleskill- D. Roy “Butch” Bever, Jr., 82, of MacArthur Avenue, Cobleskill, New York died Thursday, March 28, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born on July 6, 1941 in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of D. Roy Bever, Sr. and Velda Salisbury Bever. He was a lifelong resident of the Cobleskill area.
As a young adult, Butch worked for the Hyndsville Store. He did body work and was a mechanic for Pangman’s Garage, and worked for Chuck Milton at Hammerstone/Jay Ridge Apartments in maintenance. Butch was a self-employed handyman and mechanic.
He was a Jack of all trades, that enjoyed staying busy and tinkering with projects. Butch was well known for his love of Harley's and his experience in riding. He was meticulous with his work. In his late 70s he was highly involved in large scale construction and carpentry projects with his daughter, his son, and friends; dotingly he overlooked and advised his grandchildren tinkering on some smaller mechanical projects, helping to instill the love of tinkering in yet another generation. His knowledge and influence is unforgettable. He was a long time member of the Cobleskill #2695 Fraternal Order of Eagles.
His parents and aunt, Joan DeMarco as well as many close friends that he considered family predeceased him.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Jodie Marlow and Russell of Howes Cave, NY; son, George Shaw, Jr. and Maria of Howes Cave, NY; companion, Betsy Breglia of Cobleskill, NY; grandchildren, Jordan Yauchler, Ayiana and Damien Shaw; brother, Fred Bever and Karen of Ballston Lake, NY; and many close friends he considered to be family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
