Clarence Foland

Middleburgh- Clarence "Skip" R. Foland, 84, of Middleburgh, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at his daughter's home in Richmondville.

Born January 8, 1930 in Schoharie, he was the son of the late Victor and Dorothy (Wood) Foland.

He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1952 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.

Skip retired from Rotterdam Industrial Park where he had been a tire changer for a number of years.

His hobbies were upholstering using plastics and canvas, along with music that included playing the guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin, and harmonica.

Skip married Eleanor Lamont on Jan. 5, 1952 and she predeceased him on April 14, 2006.

Survivors include his daughter: Vicki (John) Somma of Richmondville ;three grandchildren: Robert (Mary) Foland of Cobleskill, Tina (Mackie) Somma of Richmondville, and Rebecca (Ronnie) Ferry of Cobleskill; six great-grandchildren: Desyree, Khloe, Lucas, Johnathan, Alexys, and Davonte; his sister: Carolyn (Jack) Snyder of Schoharie; and three brothers: Keith "Sonny" Foland, and Donald Foland, both of Schoharie, and Willie (Roxie) Foland of Gibson, NC.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 6 PM at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service on Thur., from 5 to 6PM. Spring inurnment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
