Christoph Michael Piening, 83, most recently of Deer Lane, Cobleskill, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Monday, April 1st, 1940 in Hallendorf, Germany; he was the son of Ludwig Piening and Martha (Euler) Piening.
Christoph was a dedicated self-employed dairy farmer in the Montgomery County area. He served as Town Supervisor for the Town of Charleston in the 1970’s. He married Margaret Malaspina on January 30, 1965. Together they celebrated over 59 years of marriage.
Christoph enjoyed the outdoors. Thatcher Park & Vroman’s Nose were some of the places he liked to hike. He loved going to Sacandaga Lake with his boat and family and taking his children waterskiing and tubing. He also loved to go to the ocean, vacationing in Chincoteague Island, VA. Some other of his favorite vacations were an Alaskan cruise with his wife, as well as trips to Nova Scotia and Savannah, GA together. He enjoyed following UConn Huskies Women's Basketball. Christoph also loved horses and playing chess.
Christoph is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his children, Daniel (Lillian) Piening of Elmwood Park, NJ, Rebecca (Kevin) Yager of Denton, TX, Madeline (Tim) Deats of Howes Caves, NY, Marie Fosmire of Howes Cave, NY, and Christian Piening of Cobleskill, NY. He is also survived by his sisters, Almuth Kretz of Ghent, NY, Renate Pank of Chatham, NY, Mareike Freeman of Fultonville, NY; brother, Michael Piening of Kemptville, ON; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ekkehardt Piening and his sister, Barbara Kilmartin.
