Christine Dickerson, wife of Paul M. Turner, of Summit, New York passed away at her home on Friday, October 14, 2011. Christine was born at Elm Home Hospital, in Cobleskill, NY on October 14, 1947. She graduated from Middleburgh Central School in 1965. Following graduation, she attended the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY. She graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1969 with a dual degree in Sociology and Psychology. She received her Master's Degree in Library Sciences from SUNY Albany in 1976.
She served as the Library Director at the Community Library of Cobleskill from 1990 until 2010. Previously, she was employed by the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, the Sage College of Albany, and Bryn Mawyr College. Christine also was a member of MENSA International, ACLU, Anti-Defamation League and the U.S. Holocaust Museum. She served on the Board of Tri-County Arts Council (formerly Schoharie County Arts Council), Literacy Volunteers of Schoharie County, Schoharie County Community Services Board and the Cobleskill Rotary Club. She was a member of the Love, Loss and Forgiveness Project Board at the time of her death.
Christine converted to the Jewish faith during the Winter Solstice of 1992.
She was predeceased by brother, Noel Scott Dickerson, and her mother, Eleanor Keimig Dickerson. She leaves behind her father and wife, Chester M. and Elizabeth Dickerson; brothers Brian (Netta), David (Patty) and sister, Barbara Petraznik (Gary). Also survived by nieces and nephews: Lauren, Michael, Colin, Sarah, Sunny and Christopher Jacob.
Christine will be remembered for her love of music, literature, nature and family.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the National Holocaust Museum, Adirondack Council, Acadia National Park and/or The Noel and Eleanor Dickerson Memorial Award c/o David Dickerson at Middleburgh Central School.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.
