Chester P. Shilstone, 84, of Huntersland Rd., died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at his home, following a brief illness.
Mr. Shilstone was born on September 14, 1924 in West Hempstead, NY a son of the late Marie (Peterson) and Chester Shilstone.
He served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. Mr. Shilstone worked for Grummons Corp. in Bethpage,NY as an aircraft mechanic before retiring in 1978 and moving to Middleburgh, NY. He also worked at Middleburgh Central School as a custodian. Mr. Shilstone enjoyed puzzles and collecting miniature model cars. He was a member of the VFW Memorial Post # 2161 in Middleburgh and the Huntersland United Methodist Church.
Mr. Shilstone was predeceased by his first wife, Betty and his daughter, Karen Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Laraway) Shilstone, whom he married on January 12, 1994; son, Chester R. Shilstone of Middleburgh, NY; stepdaughters: Linda Tanner of Freehold, NY and Darlene (Roy) McGinn of Virginia Beach, VA; stepson, David (Darleen) Laraway of Sloansville, NY; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11am, Monday April 20, 2009 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY 12122. Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Middleburgh Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a visitation period from 10-11am Monday, prior to the service.
