Charlotte Bortell

Howes Cave- Charlotte E. Bortell, 100, died on Monday, February 22, 2021 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta where she had been a resident for the past several years.  Prior to that she lived on Barnerville Road for numerous years.

Born December 9, 1920 in Oneonta, she was the daughter of Jay Gould and Catherine (Smith) Woolheater.  Charlotte was a graduate of Oneonta High School.

She worked in various capacities at Cobleskill Regional Hospital, receptionist, nurses’ aid in the maternity ward along with other positions.  Later Charlotte was a clerk at Howe Caverns Gift Shop.

She dabbled in politics and was extremely opinionated.  Charlotte enjoyed reading newspapers and interacting on Facebook.  In her younger years, Charlotte took pleasure in attending the family reunions.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond E. Bortell in 2004, son, James Firman in 1977, and daughter, Cathie Bever in 2015.

She was the beloved mother of Terry J. (Nancy) Firman of Richmondville, William Firman of Orlando, FL, and Michael (Sue) Bortell of Sloansville; grandmother of four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery in the spring.
