Charles Lord, Sr

Howes Cave- Charles R. Lord, Sr., 75, of Goodfellow Lane, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at Albany Medical Center.

Born April 20, 1941 in Downsville, NY, he was the son of James G. and Flossie (Merckel) Lord.

Chuck was a 1958 graduate of Downsville Central School and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served our country until receiving an honorable discharge in 1959.

Chuck operated the Sign Man Charlie establishment, painting many of the businesses and local signs within the county. He was a member of the former Dorloo United Methodist Church and the former Moose Lodge in Sharon Springs.

He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers: James, Gilbert, Edward, and Larry Lord.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen N. (Davenport) Lord, whom he married July 21, 1963; his three children: Robert (Cynthia) Lord of Williston, FL, Rebecca Lord of Howes Cave, and Charles R. (Mary) Lord, Jr. of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Zion Rural Cemetery, State Route 10, Seward. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Smith of Cobleskill Full Gospel Church in Warnerville. There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
