Summit- Charles A. Christiansen, Sr., 92, of Mud Lake Rd., died Friday, October 28, 2016 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford where he had been for the past month.
Born September 7, 1924 in Hollis, NY, he was the son of George S. and Sophie (Andersen) Christiansen.
A Decorated United States Navy veteran, Charles proudly served his country from 1942 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946.
For forty years, Charlie owned and operated a radiator and machine shop on Long Island.
After moving to this area, he became the general manager of the Delaware & Ulster Railroad in Arkville. Additionally, Charlie was town supervisor of Summit NY for many years, and continued his public service as an officer of the court in Schoharie.
He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Morton 63 in Hempstead, Long Island, as well as the Cobleskill Lodge #394 and the Jefferson Masons. Charles was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville.
In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying as he received his private pilot's license. He was an active member of Schoharie Senior Council and the Summit and Richmondville seniors.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Rosemary, on May 12, 2014.
Survivors include his children: Jeanne Christiansen (Ron Cleeve) of Cobleskill, and Rosemary "Posie" (Dennis) Shaw of Richmondville, thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves a son and daughters: Christine Christiansen (Ralph Cornwell), Charles A. (Cori) Christiansen, Jr., Randi Roberts all of whom live out of the area.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be Rev. Kenneth Dingman. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 - 6 PM on Sunday. Burial with military honors will be in Summit Cemetery.
