Richmondville- Catherine J. Betts, 60, of Lape Road, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown with her loving family at her side.
Born March 28, 1950 in Cobleskill, she was the daughter of the June (Gallup) Lape and the late Roger Lape.
Cathy was selfless and always willing to lend a hand with neighbors young and old. She was a volunteer and former director of the Richmondville Youth Organization, and coached Little League for several years.
A member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church, Cathy was very active with her church and was a teacher for the "little learners", as well as assisting in many other ways.
She took pride in her career as a housekeeper for many which included her love of flowers as she tended to her clients' plants as though they were her own. Cathy had a passion for her vegetable and flower garden.
Along with her father, Cathy was predeceased by two brothers, John and Steven Lape.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dennis Betts; and her son and daughter-in-law: Paul and Stacey Betts and their son, Bryan all of Richmondville; her mother, June Lape of Richmondville; two sisters: Mary (Vincent) Massarotti and Dawn (Robert) Becker, all of Richmondville; two brothers: Bill (Nancy) Lape and Joe (Toni) Lape, all of Richmondville; her in-laws: Glen (Terri) Betts of Statesville, NC, Randy Betts of Richmondville, Diane (John) Roney of Warnerville, Jeff (Judy) Betts of Vale, NC, Ernie Betts of Stony Point, NC and Tommy (Sandy) Ostrander of Richmondville and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Rev. Ray Richards officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church on Sunday prior to the service from 1:30PM to 3:00 PM.
