Carlos Eduardo Ibarra
January 16, 1933-March 11, 2023
Carlos E. Ibarra 90, of Cobleskill- Went home to be with The Lord.
Born in Salta, Argentina, he was the son of Luis Alberto Ibarra and Mercedes Fernandez de Ibarra.
As a boy, Carlos worked beside his dad in the family bicycle shop. There he learned the value of hard work, which would serve him well through life.
In his youth, he was active in rugby, “futbol”, tennis, and anything to do with motorcycles. As he grew, he put an eye to the sky, studying for and obtaining his pilot license. He enjoyed sharing stories of his small plane adventures in the skies above the Argentine countryside.
In 1961, he traveled to the U.S. as part of a church-based Mission. He decided to stay. It wasn’t long before he met the love of his life, Barbara Jane Jacobsen.
Carlos and Barbara were married in 1965, and together built a family of five: Jonathan, Steven, Lisa, David and Anamaria.
During a career spanning five decades, Carlos commuted “down-state” weekly to Rockland county. He began working for Beckerle & Brown early on, managing a large commercial leasing business until retirement. Driven by his ambitious spirit he also started an accounting practice, opening an office on main street in Middleburgh. There he offered financial advice, bookkeeping, and tax prep services to the community.
A standout moment for Carlos was the day he became a U.S. Citizen. Life experiences gave him a full appreciation for the opportunities afforded to all in the Great United States of America. He loved this country and flew the stars and stripes proudly.
As a born-again Christian, a man of great faith, and devoted servant of the Lord, he lived a life of humility and love. He instilled a strong faith-based foundation in his kids, and will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, kindness to all, and terrific sense of humor.
Carlos leaves behind his five kids: Jonathan (Cheryl) Ibarra, Steven (Jill) Ibarra, Lisa (William) Himme, David (Karen) Ibarra, Ana Brandt, nine grandchildren; Joshua, Nathan, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Danielle, Sarah, Evan, Olivia, Ava and one great grandchild Haven. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, brother Luis and grandson Jacob E. Himme.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team of professional caregivers that made dad’s final days joyful and peaceful.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5 to 7PM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. All are invited to a funeral service to be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 960 Mineral Springs Rd., Cobleskill with Rev. Ray Richards officiating.
