Carl Cowls

Amsterdam, NY- Carl H. Cowls, 91, formerly of Tribes Hill, NY, died Wed. June 20, 2007 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY, where he had resided since Oct. 31, 2006.
Mr. Cowls was born in Ogdensburg, NY a son of the late Ashton D. and Marie Shalor Cowls. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and lived on the family farm, caring for his parents until their deaths in the 1960's. He moved to the Cobleskill area in the early 1970's and then to Sharon Springs, NY and most recently, Tribes Hill, NY.
Mr. Cowls was a farmer by trade, though he also worked as a butcher for Shaffer's
Market, in Cobleskill, NY and finally as a shipping clerk for the State University of New York, at Cobleskill. He was a member and past president of the Grange in Lewis County as well as an officer of the Artificial Cattle Breeder's Association. Mr. Cowls enjoyed nature, caring for animals, playing the organ and reading. He will be remembered for his pleasant disposition, repertoire of sayings and jokes and his ability to quote the scriptures.
Mr. Cowls was predeceased, in 2001, by his wife, Pauline Gibson Lewis, whom he married on June 11, 1977 and also by his sister, Edna Stiegler and step-grandson, Leon Snyder, IV.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M., Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St. Middleburgh, NY with Rev. Mark Steigler officiating. Private burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jefferson, NY. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M., Sun., June 24, 2007 at the funeral home.
