Middleburgh- Byron "Bud" D. Haverly, 86, of Union Street, died Friday, July 22, 2016, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bud was born in North Blenheim on December 3, 1929 to Gertrude (Danforth) and Byron H. Haverly.

He graduated from Gilboa Conesville Central School and worked at the Army Depot before enlisting in the United States Army, serving from 1951 to 1953.

Upon his honorable discharge, he worked at various jobs including General Electric, the Blenheim House and West Motors in Middleburgh. Bud eventually acquired and ran the Gulf Station on Main Street in Middleburgh for more than 20 years, then he owned Haverly's Auto Supply for 4 years before retiring.

He was an avid hunter and bowled for many years on the Wednesday Night Mixed League.
Bud was a former member of the Timothy Murphy Post #248 American Legion, Cobleskill Elks Lodge #2040, the Middleburgh Volunteer Fire Department and a founding member of the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club.

Bud was predeceased by his brother: George Haverly.

He is survived by his wife: Laura (Cottone) Haverly of Middleburgh, whom he married on October 30, 1953; daughter: Kathryn Ferdinandi of Deltona, FL; sons: Byron W. (Kathy) Haverly of Sharon Springs, Allan C. Haverly of Hill City, SD.; brother: Fredrick (Leta) Haverly of Gunnison, CO; grandchildren: Bonnie Simmons of Deltona, FL, Andrea Slater of St. Johnsville, Joseph E. Ferdinandi of Middleburgh, Byron J. Haverly of Root, Ian A. Haverly of Hill City, SD, Kyle M. Haverly of Hill City, SD; 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Paul Ferenczy officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, North Blenheim. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6:00-8:00PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the funeral home.
