Brenda Ann Smith, 60, formerly of Howes Cave and most recently of Carbondale, PA, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Born September 11, 1962 in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of William and Alice C. (Grant) Smith. They preceded her in death, and she missed them immensely.
Brenda had been employed at Sovereign Cleaning in Carbondale, PA.
She also worked as a caregiver for many, many children in Schoharie County over three decades.
Brenda’s greatest loves were kids, animals, and the ocean. Brenda loved to bake goodies for family and friends, especially at Christmas. Her cheesecake was a family holiday staple. She loved her many pets over the years and was an avid advocate for rescue and adoption.
Brenda was a magnet to young children. She cherished the years that she spent caring for nieces and nephews. Matthew A., Rowan, and Bronwyn held a special place in her heart.
Brenda will be the forever guardian of the lights of her life, Savannah Ann and Leigha Linden-Rose who affectionately called her Grandma.
Time with family at the beach were her happiest moments.
Remembering her are her sister, Sonia Munson of Peckville, PA, brother, Roger Smith (Jodi) of Chatham, NY, sister, Leeann Smith of Norristown, PA, and her stepmother and friend, Joan Smith of Norristown, PA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Per Brenda’s wishes, her ashes will be spread at sea in a private service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 42, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
