Richmondville- Blanche I. Merwin, 95, of West Richmondville Road, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at her granddaughter's home surrounded by her family.
Blanche was born September 7, 1914 in Colchester, NY, to the late George and Emma (Henness) Rivenburgh.
She retired from the former Cobleskill Sportswear as an inspector and underpresser. Blanche had also been employed at the ACE Glove Factory in Richmondville
She married Elmer B. Merwin, Sr. on September 12, 1932, and he predeceased her on May 22, 1990. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Betty Ware of Carlisle and son, John Merwin of Stamford.
Survivors include her nine children: Edward (Shirley) Merwin of Conway, SC, Richard (Justine) Merwin of Roebuck, SC, Elmer (Sandra) Merwin of Spartanburg, SC, Russell (Kathy) Merwin of Sevierville, TN, Charles (Sylvia) Merwin of Richmondville, Frank (Jane) Merwin of Sloansville, Dorothy (Val) Oliver of Cherry Valley, Emma Rood of Canajoharie, and Mildred Acardi of Cherry Valley; three siblings: Edward (Nancy) Rivenburgh of Cherry Valley, George (Fran) Rivenburgh of West Fulton, and Nellie Bouck of Cherry Valley; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with the retired Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro officiating. Burial will follow in Richmondville Rural Cemetery. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
