Bertha Mead

Charlotteville- Bertha G. Mead, 78, of Meade Road, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Born September 17, 1939 in Summit, she was the daughter of William and Lula (Wayman) Spooner.

A lifelong area resident, Bertha served as Summit Town Clerk for twenty years and as Tax Collector for twenty-six years.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William Spooner.

A devoted wife, mother and sister, Bertha is survived by her husband, Louis R. Mead, whom she married October 17, 1959; her six children:  Susan Ghaly, George (Susan) Mead, Lawrence (Debra) Mead, Eric (Kim) Mead, Kelvin (Pat) Mead, and Moneta (Willard) Lamont; her sister, Oma (Jim) Broich; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, where a period of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service.  Officiating will be Rev. Paul Timmerman of the First Baptist Church in East Worcester, where Bertha was a member.  Spring interment will be in Charlotteville Rural Cemetery.
