Sharon Springs - Bernice J. Putnam, 88, formerly of Sharon Springs, entered eternal life Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 at Capital Living Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady, where she had been a resident for the past year.

Born October 22, 1926 in Sharon Springs, she and her twin sister, Betty, were the youngest of eleven children born to Emmett and Grace (Best) Collins.

A homemaker, Bernice had a strong faith, loved reading her bible, listening to music, playing the piano, dancing, feeding the birds, being with her family, going out to lunch and snuggling her cats.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Marcus Putnam.

Bernice is survived by her daughters: Brenda Putnam-Higgins, Marleeta Maring and Nancy Putnam; son: David Putnam; twin sister: Betty Martin; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the many individuals at Capital Living in Schenectady who took such kind and compassionate care of Bernice this past year.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Sharon Reformed Church, 6858 State Route 10, Sharon, NY with Rev. Bert Mayne officiating. Family and friends are also invited for a period of visitation at the church prior to the service from 9:30 to 10 AM. Burial will follow in Peoples Cemetery, Seward, NY,

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite #405, Albany, NY 12205.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh.
