Breakabeen - Beatrice Mae Van Valkenburg, 81, of Nelson Lane, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at her daughter's home where she came during the summers. She wintered in Blythe, GA.
Born April 17, 1930 in Lackawanna, PA, she was the daughter of Chris and Besse (Durfee) Knowles.
Beatrice retired from the Watervliet Arsenal where she had been employed as a machinist.
She enjoyed bird watching, gardening and all aspects of nature. Being an optimist, Beatrice had a positive personality and found the good in all.
Beatrice was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, LeRoy Van Valkenburg, Sr., and also a son who died later, LeRoy Van Valkenburg, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter: Georgianna Foland (Brian Bouck) of Breakabeen, and her son: Chris Van Valkenburg of Breakabeen; two sisters, three brothers, nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
