Cobleskill- Mrs. Beatrice J. Tryon, 85, of Union Street, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Tryon was born July 14, 1922 in Albany, NY, the daughter of Edmund and Alice Mae (Edinger) Coughtry. She resided in Voorheesville until she was six and then lived in Cobleskill. Mrs. Tryon was a 1942 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School. She was employed at General Electric in Schenectady in 1943 and later worked for International General Electric until 1948 when she became a mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Tryon enjoyed her children and grandchildren, television, playing cards, traveling, and spending time at their camp in the Thousand Islands. She was a past den mother for the Cub Scouts in the Cobleskill area for several years. She enjoyed toll painting, arts and crafts and had won prizes at the Cobleskill Fair.
Mrs. Tryon was a member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church for over 65 years and was main soprano in the choir for many years. She sang at many church weddings and other affairs.
She was a charter member of the Cobleskill Hospital Auxiliary, the 50+ Senior Citizen of Schoharie where she served as chaplain, a member of the Cobleskill Historical Society.
Mrs. Tryon was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, past matron of Rising Star Chapter #295, past Grand Chaplain of Grand Chapter State of New York Order of the Eastern Star, member of NY Grand's Chaplain Association, and past member of the Knight Templar Ladies Auxiliary of Cooperstown.
She was predeceased by 2 sons: Robert Jerry Tryon, who died in 1944, and Donald Alan Tryon, who died in 1995.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Jerry F. Tryon, whom she married August 1, 1943; a daughter, Susan Lape of Cicero, NY; 2 sons: Craig (Mary Ann) Tryon of Marietta, NY, and Bruce (Carole) Tryon of Howes Cave, NY; 6 grandchildren: Gregory Tryon, Laura Riggleman, Neal and Bryce Lape, and Carley and Maggie Tryon; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill, NY. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home with an Easter Star service being held at 7:45 PM. Spring interment will be at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
