Barbara Schrom

Schoharie- Barbara M. Schrom, 89, formerly of Bush Road, Middleburgh, died Sunday, March 27, 2016 at her daughter's home following a long illness.

Born July 2, 1926 in Middleburgh, she was the daughter of Fred and Lura E. (Almy) VanAller.

Barbara was a graduate of Middleburgh Central School and grew up on the family farm. She was a private caregiver at the former Mountain View Manor Home for Adults in Middleburgh. Barbara also cleaned homes for several families in the area, as well as the library.

She was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the choir at the Middleburgh United Methodist Church. More recently, she became a member of the Valley Bible Baptist Church.

Her fondness for cats and dogs began at a young age, being raised on the farm and she loved feeding the birds dried breadcrumbs on a daily basis.

Her husband, Arthur Schrom, who died December 26, 1962 and her son-in-law, Howard Klein, who died October 29, 2015, predeceased her.

Barbara was most thankful for her family, which include two daughters: Bonnie Klein of Schoharie and Diana (Peter) Haven, Sr. of Kissimmee, FL; her brother: Leon VanAller of Sharon Springs; seven grandchildren: Laurie Kousie of Worcester, MA, Gwenn Albrecht (William Moore) of Central Bridge, Ralph (Cindy) Wood, Jr. of Schoharie, Kevin Wood of Middleburgh, Barbie (Eric) Stinson of Kissimmee, FL, Heidi (Shane) Richards of Kissimmee, FL, and Peter (Annie) Haven, Jr. of Harwich, MA; eighteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 9 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Valley Bible Baptist Church, Mineral Springs Rd., Cobleskill with Pastor Shawn Foster officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church from 6 to 8 PM Thursday. Burial will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
