Livingstonville- Barbara B. Lewis, 89, formerly of Manhattan and Livingstonville, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford where she had resided since March of 2014.

Barbara was born on December 4, 1925 in New York City to Agnes B. (Hinchman) and William R. Brent.

Her family moved from Manhattan to Scarsdale in 1929 where she grew up. They first resided on Mount Joy Avenue and later moved to Edgemont Road. She attended Edgemont Elementary School and graduated from Dobbs Ferry School for Girls.

Barbara earned her Bachelor degree in English from Smith College and a Master's degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the University of Texas. She taught as an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx prior to opening her own practice in Manhattan.

She was an avid reader and her thirst for knowledge was insatiable. Barbara was the recipient of the Capital District Senior Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Barbara was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret C. Lewis in 2003.

She is survived by her daughter: Laura (Martin P.) Livingston of Livingstonville; brother: R. Spencer (Elaine) Brent of Jupiter, FL.; grandsons: Alan Torrecilla of Portsmouth, VA, Daniel (Chevonne) Torrecilla of New York City, Julian Goddard of New Windsor, NY; step-grandchildren: Monica Livingston and Mark Livingston, both of Albany; three great-grandchildren.

There will be no formal services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center c/o Kelly Martin, 333 Cook Hill Rd., Middleburgh, NY 12122 or to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 125 Granite Drive, Suite 1, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, Middleburgh and the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, Cobleskill.
