Barbara Becker

Esperance: Barbara E. Becker, 66, of Feuz Terrace, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2014 at Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Barb was born on August 5, 1948 in Schenectady, NY, the oldest daughter of Doris (Dunster) and Lionel (Jim) Liggett.

She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1966 and went on for a degree at SUNY Cobleskill. She worked at The Middleburgh Telephone Company for 40 years, handling many of the positions and responsibilities needed in the company. She was instrumental in MIDTEL's launch into the cable TV and Internet/broadband businesses.

Barb was an adoring grandmother to her six grandchildren. She loved to travel, enjoyed family, close friends and was an avid stock car racing fan.

She was pre-deceased by her father, Lionel (Jim) Liggett in 2013.

Barb is survived by her husband: Scott Becker of Esperance, whom she married on September 7, 1968 and sons: Jim (Carolyn) Becker of Guilderland, Jason (Traci) Becker of Cobleskill; mother: Doris Liggett of Schenectady; brother: John (Linda) Liggett of Scotia; sisters: Darlene (Paul) Massaro of Schenectady, Michele (Bruce) Becker of Middleburgh, Kathy (Nick) Rizzo of Rotterdam; six loving grandchildren: Brett, Megan, Dylan, Jacob, Brody, Jared; many nieces, nephews and close friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday October 17, 2014 at the Middleburgh Reformed Church, 178 River Street, Middleburgh, NY with Rev. Jeffrey Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Middleburgh Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday October 16, 2014 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY.

Memorial contributions may be sent to D-4E Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders, Albany Medical Center Foundation, 43 New Scotland Avenue, MC 119, Albany, NY  12208. The nurses and staff on this floor treated her like family, with a mutual lasting impact being felt from both sides.
