Augustus "Gus" L. Deems, 69, of McGuire School Road, died Monday, August 27, 2007 at St. Clare's Hospital Schenectady, NY.
He was born March 10, 1938 in Ossining, NY, the son of Augustus H. and Pauline (Piersall) Deems.
Mr. Deems was a 1956 graduate of Richmondville Central School. He served in the United States Army Special Forces from 1956 until 1971 when he received an honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Deems was a laborer for various construction companies, and was especially fond of Civil War Reenactments and the 79th Highlander's Regiment. He was a master training counselor with the National Rifle Association and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 54 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Wicks) Deems; twin daughters: Denise Deems of Winston Salem, NC and Diane (Bryon) Eiswerth of Williamsport, PA; 2 sisters: Dorothy E. Murphy of Greenfied, MA, Janet L. Bailey of Schoharie, and a grandson Cameron Eiswerth.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Zion Lutheran Church Main St. Cobleskill with Rev. Jennifer Boyd officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill. Burial will be in Slate Hill Cemetery.
