Broome- Antoinette (Toni) M. Elling, 74, of Kramer Road, died Friday, July 29, 2011 unexpectedly as her residence.
Born Antoinette Marie Elling in Manhattan on February 18, 1937, she spent many years in Bellmore, on Long Island where she grew up, married and raised her family before moving to the beautiful Schoharie Valley in 1981.
In 1970 she co-founded the independent Feminist Press, publishing previously forgotten works such as Tilly Olson's story "As I Stand Here Ironing" and Charlotte Perkins Gilman "The Yellow Wallpaper."
Founder of the crystallized flower company Meadowsweets, run from her 70 acre farm, Toni deeply loved Middleburgh and the surrounding communities.
Toni is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Cerutti of Fremont, California; Miriam Cerutti of Barnstable, Massachusetts; as well as her sister, Louise Elling of Taichung Taiwan; and her brother John Elling of Voorheesville, New York. All her passions and enthusiasms survive through them, and her many treasured friends.
A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held at 173 Kramer Road between 4 and 7pm on Friday August 5th.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Breakabeen Grange, The Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corps, your local animal shelter, or your favorite charity.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, NY
