Summit- Anthony L. De Santo, 88, of Wharton Hollow Road, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 after a long illness at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born October 12, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of Frank and Lena (Falzitta) De Santo.
Anthony was a United States Army veteran having served his country from 1943 until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea, obtained the rank of Corporal, and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, AP Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a long time member of St. Anna's Catholic Church in Summit and lifetime member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He enjoyed auto mechanics, was a skilled craftsman, and was always working on some project. He and his family moved to Summit from Farmingdale, Long Island in 1986 after retiring from Republic Fairchild Aviation as an Aerospace Machinist.
Anthony was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara and a sister, Rose De Santo Miranda
He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Husar) De Santo of Summit, whom he married on November 5, 1949; three daughters: Susan De Santo of Summit, Rosanna (Al) Utter of Louisville, KY, and Patricia (Frank) Cioce of Bethlehem, NY; four sons: Frank (Linda) De Santo of Louisville, KY, Anthony (Paula) De Santo of Mexico, NY, John De Santo of Queensbury, NY, and Lawrence (Maureen) De Santo of Schenectady, NY, his Grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Elizabeth, Cori, Cali, Caitlyn, Paulina, Joey and Luke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, NY with Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. A period of visitation will be held from 12 until 1 pm prior to the Mass at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Summit Cemetery.
