Cobleskill- Mrs. Amanda S. Dostie, 87, of Meadow Lane, died Friday, December 12, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Amanda was born October 5, 1921 in Worcester, NY, the daughter of Charles E. and Ethel (Platts) Simmons.
She resided in the Cobleskill community many years and retired from the Cobleskill Town Clerk's Office, where she was an assistant.
Amanda was an active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cobleskill, serving in many different capacities at the church. She was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, a member of the Red Hat Society and participated in many community functions.
Amanda was a giving and caring friend to all, always more willing to give than receive.
She was predeceased by a grandson, John Wilson.
She was the loving mother of James T. (Karen) Wilson of Cobleskill, Patricia A. Furlong of Schenectady, and Lawrence R. (Linnea) Wilson of Closter, NJ; adored by six grandchildren: Theresa Furlong, Daniel (Jane) Wilson, Marie Furlong, Deborah (Sean) Layaou, Eilene Fisher, and Jennifer Hopkins, seven great-grandchildren, and 14 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Zion Evangelical Church, Main Street, Cobleskill with Rev. Jennifer Boyd officiating. Friends are also invited for a period of visitation on Tues. from 6 to 8 PM at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill. Inurnment will be in Chuctanunda Cemetery.
