Alma Mae Ryder, 89 formerly of Richmondville passed away April 10, 2012 at Marchand Manor, Sharon Springs. Alma was born December 6, 1922, in Richmondville, NY, to Carlton and Dora Rightmyer.
Alma graduated from Richmondville Cental School in 1940. Before marrying her high school sweetheart Clayton "Johnny" Ryder on September 4, 1943, she helped in the war effort at G.E. in Schenectady assembling and testing top secret Navy radios. After Clayton was discharged from the U.S.Army Air Corps, they settled in Richmondville, and Alma spent her days as a mother and homemaker. She and Clayton enjoyed traveling the country together and spending time with family. Throughout her life, Alma found pleasure in baking, gardening, drawing and doll collecting. She was a member of the Richmondville Methodist Church, Richmondville Historical Society and proud to be an honorary lifetime member of the Richmondville Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clayton O. Ryder and son, Stephen P. Ryder.
She is survived by her two sons, James B. (Suzanne) of Lawyersville, NY and Richard M. (Barbara) of West Richmondville; three grandchildren: Jill Ryder of Gloversville, NY, Bret Ryder of Summit, NY and step-grandson Zachary Sherman of Brunswick, ME; and great-grandson, John Ryder of Summit, NY.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Richmondville Rural Cemetery with Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro officiating.
